Memories

– Divya Jain

Some places become so much a part of ourselves
That leaving them feels like leaving behind a part of your own
It takes but a song, a photo, sometimes even a mere flicker of a thing related to that place
To get the tears flowing and the memories gushing one after another
And how we wish to go back to that place, that time
But things change, time changes, and everything moves ahead
We are but a reflection of our past
A symphony of melodies hummed over years
Every new person, every new place and every new experience
Adds on to this foundation laid by the old places, the old people and the old memories
Familiarity has its own excitement
And comfort has its own charm
With the anticipation of the future and the thrill of moving forward
We all need one more moment, one more trip down the memory lane
To relive again, the time gone by
To rejoice again, in the happiness already celebrated
To cry again, tears for those old wounds
Because that is what connects
The new self
With the self that is long lost
And probably that is why
We like to capture life
In photographs
In poems
In songs
In art
In memories.
